D. Lasser Ceramics is a small, energetic
company located in the Green Mountains of Vermont. All of the
pottery is made by artists in our studio in an old barn. In
this striking setting we shape and glaze our clay. Variations
in color, design, form, and surface texture are created by the
touch of our hands and are your assurance that each piece is
a unique work of art. All of our pottery is food safe, microwaveable,
oven and dishwasher proof.
From start to finish, every
step is crucial. We begin with the raw clay which is molded,
shaped, thrown, jiggered or pressed. Each piece is then trimmed
by hand. When the desired shape is attained, the piece is
dried on a shelf or in the sun.
It is then carefully placed in one of our three
kilns and bisque fired. Each piece is candled for at least 8 hours, fired
for 12, and then cooled for 8. Once cooled, glazing begins. Each piece is
dipped in the appropriate glaze, and then air-brushed, hand painted, etched
and sponged. When the painting and sponging is complete, the piece is finally
glaze fired to cone 6, for another 8 hours, and cooled. Each piece takes
at least a week to complete.
